About this event
Part of the ATHS Brown Bag Lecture Series, pizza will be provided, open to all! What does it take to manage and curate archaeological collections in today’s world? Explore the ever-evolving standards for care and interpretation with Senior Director of Collections and Curation, Kathryn Murano Santos.
From narrative sovereignty and community curation to cultural continuity and spiritual care, discover how stewarding items for future generations involves strategies for preservation as well as relationship-building, respect for diverse histories, and deference to living traditions and knowledge keepers. Kathryn Murano Santos is Senior Director of Collections and Curation at the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC), where she centers the work of building relationships and repairing historic harm through content development processes and culturally responsive stewardship of 1.2 million objects. Her work focuses on supporting descendant communities in their efforts to reconnect with cultural resources and activating objects through first voice lenses.
